Swiss unemployment remains stable
09 March 2010
Return to index
Switzerland's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable in February at 4.1 per cent of the labor market.
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs disclosed that the national jobless rate remained unchanged from January's figure, raising hopes that the downturn in the European country's workforce has subsided.
However, Reuters reported that many analysts expect Switzerland's unemployment rate to peak at the end of 2010.
Jan Poser of Sarasin claimed that Switzerland's employment outlook may soon mirror the recovery witnessed in the economy last summer.
The Swiss National Bank expects gross domestic product to grow by between 0.5 per cent and one per cent this year.
He told the news agency: "There seems to be stabilization in the labor market, it may be a first sign that there will be a turnaround in the second quarter."
Last month, the Federal Statistics Office revealed that non-farm payrolls in Switzerland declined by just 0.1 per cent in the final three months of 2009.
