Switzerland reports increase in employment

26 November 2010
The number of people in work in Switzerland has increased during the third quarter of 2010, new data show.

According to figures from the Federal Statistics Office, employment rose compared with the same period of 2009, with the third sector workforce (services) growing at a particular strong year-on-year rate of 1.2 per cent during the three months to September and slight expansion of 0.3 per cent recorded in secondary professions (industry).

"As with the previous quarter, all short-term employment outlook indicators show a positive trend for the next quarter," the Federal Statistics Office stated.

Those seeking healthcare jobs in Switzerland may be particularly interested in the news that positions in the field have risen by 2.6 per cent annually from 2001 to 2008, compared with 1.2 per cent for the nation as a whole.

A total of 90,000 positions were added to the sector during the period in question, with around 542,000 individuals working in the industry in 2008, accounting for almost 13.5 per cent of all the nation's employees.
