Turkey reports industrial employment growth

An increase in industrial employment has been reported in Turkey over the year to the third quarter of 2010.

The number of jobs during the three months to September 2010 saw an annual increase of 5.5 per cent and a 2.2 per cent jump from the previous quarter, the Anatolia news agency reports.

In addition, the figures from TurkStat show the quarterly industrial employment index for the nation stands at 102.

The country's statistical agency revealed hours worked in industry expanded by 4.4 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2010, with a quarterly rise of 0.3 per cent recorded.

Furthermore, there was a 17 per cent climb in gross wages-salaries during the year in question and 5.2 per cent over the three months.

Meanwhile, a recent index from the source showed a rise in construction employment over the same quarter of 4.8 per cent compared with 2009, with the index expanding 3.4 per cent to 80.2.
