UK recruitment 'rose in February'

10 March 2011
Recruitment in the UK witnessed an increase in February, it has been found.

A new survey from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (Rec) revealed the fastest rise in permanent employment opportunities for ten months.

The number of people taking on temporary employment roles also escalated in the four-week period - accelerating at its sharpest since May 2007.

Kevin Green, chief executive at Rec Kevin Green said: "The UK now has a two-speed labour market. The private sector continues to hire in increasing numbers while the public sector is shedding jobs."

He explained that areas such as the IT and computing sector witnessed notable growth, but nursing, medical and care fields declined considerably from a year earlier.

Last month, research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and KPMG showed that the number of employers on the lookout for migrant workers is on the increase - with more than one in five bosses claiming they aim to make such recruitments in the first quarter of this year.
