UK technology sector 'to create IT jobs'
20 January 2011
Return to index
Britain's technology
industry
is expected to produce substantial numbers of positions during 2011.
This is according to a new study from US
engineering
giant General Electric (GE), which has found employment numbers are likely to rise by almost six per cent this year within the sector.
Those seeking
IT jobs
in the UK may be interested in the finding that 48 per cent of companies in the field are predicting they will appoint new members of staff during the coming 12 months.
GE added hi-tech manufacturers are witnessing strong growth rates and high export levels, which are expected to lead to recruitment in 2011.
Mark Elborne, GE UK president and chief executive, explained the research "shows a vibrant and positive sector that can help revitalize the UK economy over the next few years".
The
IT
industry
may buck a trend in the UK, with new data from the Office for National Statistics showing between September and November 2010, the employment rate in the country dipped by 0.3 points compared with the previous quarter to 70.4 per cent.
