US economy 'needs blueprint for industrial and jobs growth'

20 April 2011
The first step towards creating manufacturing employment opportunities in the US is to establish an economic blueprint for the future that would also emphasise energy efficiency.

This is the view of businesswoman Indra Nooyi who, speaking to CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS, explained that the president should bring together industry leaders, Republicans and Democrats to create a multi-generational plan.

While Ms Nooyi did concede that such a project would take years to complete, she added that there are several measures that could drive job growth in the country over the short term, such as cutting taxes on US subsidiaries and taxing repatriated cash at 15 per cent.

"I don't think worrying about the re-industrialization of America is a Republican issue or a Democratic issue. It's the country's issue," she was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying.

Meanwhile, new jobs could be created in Loveland, Colorado, with negotiations set to take place that could see the Aerospace and Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Park brought to the metropolis, the Denver Channel reports.
