US healthcare jobs market 'is growing'

22 September 2011
The number of jobs available for those seeking healthcare jobs in the US is growing, it has been claimed.

According to the Business Journal, employment opportunities are available in the sector and do not include only those involving direct patient care, but also IT jobs, desk positions and administrative roles.

Coordinator of an NEO HealthForce workshop in Ohio Ronald Shadd told the news source that a career in the industry can offer candidates employment security and good options for career advancement.

He pointed to the nation's ageing population and many healthcare workers approaching or arriving at retirement age as reasons for vacancies in the sector increasing.

Figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for last month showed that healthcare was the sector of the economy that created the highest number of new paid roles during August.

The data indicated a climb of 30,000 in jobs in the industry from July, with 18,000 paid roles added by ambulatory health care services and 8,000 by hospitals.
