German nationals 'seeking work in Poland'
24. mars 2010
Return to index
Those seeking work in Germany are increasingly looking towards their neighbour to the east as Poland's economy experiences stronger growth.
As Germany's economy continues to struggle, Poland is going from strength to strength, reversing a lengthy trend of people from the latter seeking jobs in the former.
The immigration phenomenon has been reported by a series of news sources, as a growing number of Germans travel across the border into Poland for work each day.
Up to 2,500 German employees are now believed to be registered for work in and around the city of Szczecin in north-western Poland.
Patrycjusz Ceran of the mayor's office in Szczecin told the Telegraph: "We want to be a magnet for business and cooperate with the Germans as equals."
Popular sectors for such jobs include construction and call centres, following economic growth of around 1.7 per cent in Poland last year.
Located in central Europe, to the east of Germany, Poland is home to just under 38.5 million people.
