Greek unemployment rises in November

14. februar 2010
Greek unemployment rises in NovemberGreece's unemployment rate increased to double-digits in November, according to figures just released by the National Statistics Service (NSS).

The official data agency disclosed that the European country's economy recorded a 0.8 per cent rise in joblessness in the period, which increased the national unemployment rate to 10.6 per cent.

This is equivalent to around 532,000 jobless individuals and is nearly three per cent more than witnessed in the same period during 2008.

This figure is more than the average recorded in the eurozone, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Last month the not-for-profit body revealed that the median unemployment rate for the 16-member economic union stood at ten per cent in December 2009.

Earlier this week, leaders of the European Union offered Greece a "clear message of solidarity" after the country's economy was plunged into crisis over its high levels of unmanageable debt.ADNFCR-1275-ID-19612450-ADNFCR
